My Journey to Opening a Restaurant After my hospital discharge, my wife treated us to a celebratory dinner at Shuko, an Omakase gem in NYC near Union Square. Little did I know this evening would ignite a remarkable journey. As a real estate broker, conversations about properties were routine. When the sushi chef overheard our discussion about real estate and expressed interest in opening a restaurant, my intuition sensed an opportunity. Despite my lack of experience in restaurant ventures, I offered assistance, never expecting him to reach out. To my surprise, he did. That very night, he texted me, seeking help finding a restaurant space. Although I had zero knowledge about commercial real estate, he insisted on asking me to help him. Then I bought books, watched YouTube, and called brokers to learn about how to negotiate the restaurant lease. What ensued were numerous meetings, cementing a close bond between us. Eventually, he extended an unexpected invitation: to partner in opening the restaurant. During my recovery, I embraced the opportunity, driven by the spirit of YOLO. This venture served as a distraction from the physical pain and a newfound purpose.
